Variations of the Beer With Tequila

Even though this beer tequila cocktail, or beertail, only calls for two ingredients, you can punch it up to three ingredients or swap a few around to style your drink to better suit your preferences.

  • Vary the types of lager you try, from something with a fruitier palette to something that complements the flavors of tequila like a Mexican lager. An American lager will have a crisp taste, but a pilsner will make the drink a bit lighter.
  • Give it a bolder lime flavor by adding approximately a half ounce of lime juice, a little less if you want it subtle, or a little more if you love lime.
  • Don't feel like you need to limit your drink to silver tequila. Try it out with a reposado or añejo. If you prefer a smooth oak or caramel flavor, use reposado. Añejo should be your pick if you want a bolder flavor that's a little sweeter than reposado. Completely flip the script for something a bit smokier by using mezcal; this will also give the lager a taste of a rauchbier, or smoked beer.

Garnishes

You can skip the garnish for the beer and tequila drink, or you can explore a few of these options, whatever completes your dreams.

  • Change out the lime wedge for a lime slice or wheel instead.
  • A salt rim would fit in quite nicely. Rub the rim of the glass with a lime wedge, then dip the entire rim, or just a small section, in salt. Do all this before you add the ingredients to the glass.
  • Sprinkle a pinch of lime zest over the top of the head of the beer.
  • Play off of the flavors of the beer you chose, using a lemon or orange garnish instead of lime.

A Look at the Beer Tequila

Mixing beer with booze is far from a modern-day invention, although it's a new discovery to many year after year. The crisp and lemony shandy, or beer and lemonade, is a proud product of the British back in the 1800s. The Germans have their own spin, as do the Spanish. With a few more ingredients, the beer and tequila cocktail becomes a lagerita; you only need to add orange liqueur and agave. However you spin it, the beertail family is one with a great list of options.

A Beer for When You Want Something a Little More

Life's too short to compromise when you can't decide whether to enjoy a beer or a cocktail. With a beer and tequila drink, there's no longer a need to make that decision. And it's an easy out when your friends are pushing tequila shots. Empty your shot glass into your beer and enjoy your tequila in peace.
