Jar Of Cinnamon Sticks In The Kitchen

Ingredients

  • 3-4 whole cinnamon sticks
  • 750mL vodka
  • Two large clean bottles or jars
  • Cheesecloth or other fine strainer
  • Funnel

Instructions

  1. In a large clean bottle or jars, combine your cinnamon sticks and vodka.
  2. After sealing them securely, give the cinnamon and vodka a gentle swirl to start mixing things.
  3. Store the containers in a cool, dark place for approximately 3 to 4 days. Each day, give the infusion another gentle swirl.
  4. After time has passed, have a sample of the infused vodka by pouring it into a glass and giving it a taste. If you decide you want more cinnamon flavor, then allow the flavors to hang out together longer, continuing to swirl each day.
  5. If the flavor is what you want, then carefully remove the cinnamon sticks and discard them. Alternatively, you can use the cinnamon sticks to make a boozy cinnamon simple syrup.
  6. Carefully funnel the vodka into the clean bottle, using a cheesecloth or other strainer to catch any remaining cinnamon sediments.
  7. Seal and store in a cool, dark place.

You can use the infused vodka immediately, and it will keep well in a cool, dark place for one to two years without flavor being affected. However, discard when the flavor starts to fade or tastes "off."

Variations of Cinnamon-Infused Vodka

Cinnamon is a beautifully singular flavor that pairs well with so many other herbs, fruits, and spices. The hardest part is deciding where to start.

  • Add an unpeeled, sliced apple or two for that signature and beloved cinnamon apple flavor.
  • Drop-in ten to twelve unwrapped soft or hard caramel candies for a sweeter vodka.
  • Add in a cup of pitted and coarsely chopped cherries or pitted and sliced plums for a fruitier flavor. Likewise, a sliced and unpeeled pear adds another level of flavor.
  • If you're in search of rich spice notes, add a half to one tablespoon of cloves, a tablespoon of peeled and sliced ginger, a tablespoon of coarsely chopped nutmeg, a half to full tablespoon of star anise, and a whole vanilla bean.
  • Create a little zip by adding a cup of coarsely chopped whole coffee beans.
  • Talk a walk on the sweeter side by adding a quarter cup of coarsely chopped pieces of chocolate. You can also add a quarter cup of honey or maple syrup.
  • Kick things into a nuttier gear by adding a half cup of coarsely chopped almonds, pecans, or walnuts.
