Variations and Substitutions

You may not be able to overhaul this drink entirely, but that doesn't mean you can't make a few tweaks.

  • Make your own orange vodka at home. Doing so also means you can add hints of other flavors such as vanilla or lemon to your orange-flavored vodka.
  • Add a splash of vanilla liqueur for a dessert-tasting cocktail.
  • Include a half-ounce of pineapple juice for a sunnier flavor.
  • Enjoy in a chilled martini glass for a more elevated look.

Garnishes

The 007 cocktail calls for a simple orange wheel as a garnish. But just like any good agent pivots and changes plan, you too can change up the garnish.

  • Instead of a fresh orange wheel, try a dehydrated orange wheel.
  • Include different citrus wheels, such as a lemon or lime. You can also use a citrus wedge or slice.
  • Add a cherry for a bright pop of red.

Cocktail, 007 Cocktail

The 007 cocktail is a creative name for its ingredients: Orange vodka, Orange juice, and 7-Up. You won't find this drink in any Bond movie, but it's a much more palatable drink than those Bond usually orders, be it a martini or vesper. In fact, this cocktail more closely resembles a screwdriver drink than a traditional Bond martini! The screwdriver is an apparent influence on the 007 and is a cocktail with its own myth and legends. History suggests that the screwdriver's roots come from Turkey in the late 1940s, but lore tells a story about American construction workers who would spike their orange juice. As the liquids would separate over time, legend says, they stirred their separated vodka and orange juice with their screwdrivers as no spoon was readily available.

A Cocktail Worthy of a Secret Agent

Skip the vesper and other Bond-style cocktails in favor of something a little less boozy and a little more afternoon friendly. In fact, you can easily enjoy this meal over brunch. So belly up and grab a little vitamin C in this juicy drink.
